Hudson Valley families
whose lives have been affected by
Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE)
Who We Are
A parent-led nonprofit supporting Hudson Valley families affected by Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy, also known as “HIE”.
Hudson Valley HIEroes was created by people who understand the HIE journey firsthand.
Through connection, education, and advocacy, we aim to provide local support, offer trusted resources, and build a community where families never have to navigate HIE alone.
What is HIE?
Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) is a type of brain injury that occurs when a baby’s brain does not receive enough oxygen and blood flow around the time of birth. The severity of HIE can vary widely, and its effects may not be fully understood right away.
HIE affects each child differently. Some children experience mild developmental challenges, while others face complex medical needs, and some families endure the heartbreaking loss of their child. Families navigating an HIE diagnosis often face uncertainty, isolation, and the need for long-term support. Hudson Valley HIEroes exists to ensure these families never walk that journey alone—by offering community connection, trusted resources, and compassionate support.
