Logan’s Story Takes the Mic at the 26th annual Cares for Kids Radiothon

Logan's Story - 28th Annual Cares for Kids Radiothon

The 28th annual Cares for Kids Radiothon took place on May 7 and 8 this year, raising $327,307 for the Bernard and Millie Duker Children’s Hospital and Albany Medical Center! The two-day event, broadcast on several local radio stations, highlighted the lifesaving care that happens every day at the region’s only dedicated children’s hospital.

During the Radiothon, thousands of listeners had the opportunity to hear from Katelyn Farcher, President and Founder of Hudson Valley HIEroes, and her husband, Dietz, who shared the story of their daughter, Logan.

After experiencing Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) as a newborn, Logan was emergently transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), located in the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital. This NICU is one of the state’s few Regional Perinatal Centers outside of New York City equipped to provide the highest level of care to critically ill newborns, which includes Therapeutic Hypothermia—the only proven treatment for babies with moderate-to-severe HIE.

For families facing emergencies like Logan’s, access to the level of specialized neonatal care is critical, and the care that she received in the NICU at Albany Medical Center made all the difference. More than that, she continues to receive specialized pediatric services through Albany Medical Center, something that her parents said would be far more difficult without access to a facility nearby.

Stories like Logan’s are so important because they help bring awareness to HIE and offer a glimpse into the realities that families can face in the hours, days, months, and years after birth. They also highlight the lifesaving importance of access to specialized care and the profound impact that hospitals like the Bernard and Millie Duker Children’s Hospital can have on a child’s journey.

By sharing Logan’s journey, Katelyn continues to educate others about HIE while helping families feel less alone in their own experiences. We are deeply proud of her advocacy, her strength, and her commitment to using her voice to support and uplift the HIE community. We are equally proud of Logan, whose resilience continues to inspire so many.

If you haven’t already, we hope you will take a listen!
